As part of our student services team, we are seeking a motivated and empathetic Academic Counselor to join us in supporting the academic success and personal development of our students in Trivandrum.You will work closely with students, faculty, and other support staff to address academic challenges, explore career options, and promote student engagement and retention. Your passion for education, strong interpersonal skills, and commitment to student success will contribute to a positive and enriching learning environment. Responsibilities: Provide individualized academic counseling and support services to students, including academic advising, course selection, and degree planning, based on their academic goals, interests, and abilities. Conduct initial intake assessments and academic evaluations to identify students' strengths, challenges, and learning needs, and develop personalized academic success plans accordingly. Assist students in setting short-term and long-term academic goals, monitoring progress, and overcoming obstacles to academic achievement through regular follow-up and support. Collaborate with faculty advisors, department heads, and academic support staff to coordinate academic support services, interventions, and resources for students. Conduct workshops, seminars, and orientation sessions on academic success strategies, study skills, time management, and other topics to enhance students' academic performance and self-efficacy. Provide information and guidance to students on academic policies, procedures, and graduation requirements, ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines and regulations. Assist students in exploring career options, identifying academic pathways, and developing educational plans aligned with their career interests, skills, and aspirations. Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including academic transcripts, progress reports, and counseling notes, using student information systems or database software. Liaise with external agencies, employers, and educational institutions to facilitate internships, externships, job placements, and transfer opportunities for students as needed. Monitor students' academic progress, attendance, and engagement through data analysis, trend identification, and early alert systems, intervening proactively to support at-risk students. Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to students experiencing academic, personal, or social challenges, referring them to appropriate campus resources or community services as needed. Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and emerging issues in academic advising, student development, and higher education, participating in professional development activities as required. Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and academic advising forums to contribute ideas, share insights, and collaborate with colleagues on program improvement initiatives. Foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment that respects diversity, promotes equity, and celebrates student achievement and cultural enrichment. Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality guidelines, and professional codes of conduct in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, psychology, student affairs, or a related field; master's degree preferred. Previous experience in academic advising, counseling, student services, or related areas in a higher education setting preferred. Strong knowledge of academic programs, degree requirements, and educational pathways in higher education. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport, build relationships, and communicate effectively with diverse student populations. Empathy, patience, and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of students, with a genuine commitment to supporting their academic and personal growth. Ability to assess student needs, identify barriers to academic success, and develop appropriate interventions and solutions. Knowledge of counseling techniques, assessment tools, and student development theories applicable to academic advising and counseling. Familiarity with student information systems, database software, and online advising platforms used in higher education. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage caseloads, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional extended hours to accommodate student needs and campus events. Commitment to professional development, continuous learning, and staying updated on best practices in academic advising and counseling. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing positively to a collegial work environment. Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, and internet research. Fluency in Malayalam and proficiency in English; additional language skills are a plus.
