We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Optical Technician to join our team in Trivandrum. The Optical Technician will be responsible for assisting optometrists and ophthalmologists in providing high-quality eye care services, including conducting preliminary tests, preparing equipment, and assisting with patient care. The ideal candidate should have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a passion for helping others. Responsibilities: Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists in conducting preliminary eye exams, including visual acuity tests, refraction tests, and intraocular pressure measurements. Prepare examination rooms and equipment for patient appointments, ensuring cleanliness, sterilization, and proper functioning of instruments and tools. Perform diagnostic tests and procedures, such as lensometry, keratometry, tonometry, and pachymetry, under the supervision of licensed eye care professionals. Assist with contact lens fittings, adjustments, and follow-up appointments, including teaching patients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses. Educate patients about various eye care products, treatments, and procedures, and provide guidance on proper eyewear selection, lens options, and frame styles. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical history, test results, prescriptions, and treatment plans, using electronic health records (EHR) systems. Prepare and dispense eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids according to prescriptions provided by optometrists or ophthalmologists. Adjust and repair eyeglasses, frames, and lenses, including fitting and aligning frames, replacing nose pads, and repairing minor damage or defects. Assist with administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and billing patients for services rendered. Follow safety protocols and infection control procedures to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff. Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and advances in optical equipment and procedures through continuing education and professional development activities. Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients warmly, addressing their concerns, and ensuring their comfort and satisfaction throughout their visit. Requirements: Diploma or certification in Optometry, Ophthalmic Technology, or a related field is required. Previous work experience as an Optical Technician, Optometric Assistant, or Ophthalmic Technician is preferred. Strong technical skills and proficiency in using ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic equipment. Knowledge of eye anatomy, physiology, and common eye conditions, as well as familiarity with optical principles and lens properties. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, coworkers, and healthcare providers. Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests, measurements, and procedures, and maintaining patient records. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, based on clinic hours and patient appointments.
