As a Student Counselor in Trivandrum, your primary responsibility is to provide guidance, support, and counseling services to students to enhance their academic success, personal development, and overall well-being. Your duties may include, but are not limited to: Individual Counseling: Conducting confidential one-on-one counseling sessions with students to address academic, personal, social, and emotional concerns. Academic Advising: Helping students develop academic plans, set goals, and make course selections based on their interests, abilities, and educational requirements. Providing support and resources to improve study skills, time management, and academic performance. Educational Planning: Assisting students in researching colleges, universities, and vocational programs that align with their academic and career goals. Providing guidance on college admissions, application procedures, standardized tests, scholarships, and financial aid opportunities. Personal Development: Facilitating workshops, group counseling sessions, or support groups on topics such as stress management, conflict resolution, self-esteem building, and interpersonal relationships. Empowering students to develop coping skills and resilience to navigate life challenges. Crisis Intervention: Responding promptly and effectively to students experiencing crises, emergencies, or mental health concerns. Providing crisis counseling, risk assessment, and referrals to appropriate resources, such as mental health professionals or community services. Parent Collaboration: Collaborating with parents or guardians to address concerns, share information, and develop strategies to support students' academic and personal development. Providing resources and guidance to parents on effective parenting techniques and communication skills. Educational Advocacy: Advocating for students' needs and rights within the educational system. Working with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure that students receive appropriate support, accommodations, and resources to succeed academically and socially. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintaining accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions. Documenting student progress, goals, and action plans to track outcomes and inform future counseling sessions. Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing professional development activities to enhance counseling skills, stay updated on best practices, and comply with ethical guidelines and professional standards. Requirements: Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field. License or certification in counseling preferred. Previous experience in counseling, student services, or related fields preferred. Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and ethical guidelines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Empathy, compassion, and the ability to establish rapport with students from diverse backgrounds. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
