Job Description: The Restaurant Captain plays a pivotal role in ensuring smooth operations and exceptional service delivery in our restaurant. As a leader in the front-of-house team, the Restaurant Captain is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the waitstaff, ensuring high standards of service, and fostering a positive dining experience for our guests. Responsibilities: Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the activities of the waitstaff, including assigning duties, providing training, and ensuring adherence to service standards and protocols. Guest Service: Greet guests upon arrival, escort them to their tables, and ensure their needs are promptly addressed throughout their dining experience. Handle guest inquiries, requests, and complaints with professionalism and courtesy. Order Management: Take orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring that special requests and dietary preferences are communicated to the kitchen staff. Coordinate with the kitchen team to ensure timely preparation and delivery of food and beverages. Table Maintenance: Oversee the setup and arrangement of tables, ensuring cleanliness, proper placement of utensils, and attractive presentation. Monitor table turnover and allocate seating efficiently to maximize restaurant capacity. Menu Knowledge: Have a thorough understanding of the restaurant menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and special offerings. Provide recommendations and descriptions to guests, upselling items when appropriate. Salesmanship: Promote menu items, specials, and promotions to guests, using suggestive selling techniques to increase sales and enhance the guest experience. Cash Handling: Process guest payments accurately and efficiently, handling cash, credit/debit cards, and electronic payments. Reconcile cash registers at the end of each shift and ensure accuracy in cash handling procedures. Training and Development: Conduct ongoing training sessions for waitstaff, focusing on service standards, product knowledge, and communication skills. Provide feedback and coaching to improve performance and service quality. Hygiene and Safety: Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handling of food and beverages, sanitation of work areas, and adherence to health regulations. Shift Management: Oversee the opening and closing procedures of the restaurant, including cash register reconciliation, inventory management, and cleanliness checks. Ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and the restaurant is prepared for the next shift. Qualifications: Proven experience as a Restaurant Captain, Head Waiter, or similar role in a high-volume restaurant environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team. Strong customer service orientation, with a passion for delivering memorable dining experiences. Knowledge of food and beverage operations, including menu items, wine pairings, and service techniques. Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, especially during peak dining hours. Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and cash handling procedures. Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards, with certification in food handling preferred. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the restaurant schedule.
