The Optometrist will be responsible for providing comprehensive eye care services, including vision testing, prescribing corrective lenses, and diagnosing and managing various eye conditions. This role requires clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities: Comprehensive Eye Examinations: Conduct thorough eye examinations to assess visual acuity, refractive errors, eye health, and binocular vision function. Utilize specialized equipment and diagnostic tools, such as autorefractors, phoropters, and slit lamps, to evaluate eye conditions accurately. Vision Testing and Prescription: Perform visual assessments, including visual field testing, color vision testing, and depth perception testing, to evaluate patients' vision. Prescribe and dispense eyeglasses, contact lenses, and low vision aids based on patients' visual needs, lifestyle, and preferences. Contact Lens Fitting and Management: Conduct contact lens fittings, including assessing corneal curvature, selecting appropriate lens types, and providing instructions on lens insertion and removal. Monitor and manage contact lens wearers, including follow-up appointments, adjustments, and addressing any complications or concerns. Eye Health Evaluation: Evaluate eye health and screen for ocular diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other healthcare professionals for further evaluation and treatment of ocular conditions as needed. Patient Education and Counseling: Educate patients about proper eye care practices, including eye hygiene, UV protection, and lifestyle factors affecting ocular health. Provide counseling on the use and care of eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids to ensure optimal visual outcomes and comfort. Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical history, examination findings, diagnostic test results, and treatment plans. Document prescription details, lens specifications, and other relevant information in electronic health records (EHR) or practice management systems. Collaboration and Referral Coordination: Collaborate with other members of the eye care team, including ophthalmologists, opticians, and optical laboratory technicians, to ensure coordinated patient care. Communicate effectively with referring physicians and healthcare providers to facilitate seamless transitions of care for patients requiring specialized treatment or surgery. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Optometry or Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from a recognized institution. Valid license to practice optometry in the state of Kerala, India. Clinical experience in optometry practice, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting. Proficiency in performing comprehensive eye examinations, vision testing, and diagnostic procedures. Strong knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and pathology, as well as common eye conditions and diseases. Familiarity with optical principles, lens design, and contact lens fitting techniques. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical concepts to patients in an understandable manner.
