As part of our production team, we are seeking a skilled Upholsterer to join us in upholstering furniture pieces with precision and attention to detail, ensuring superior quality and customer satisfaction.You will work as part of a team in a workshop environment, collaborating with other craftsmen and production staff to produce furniture items that meet our quality standards and exceed customer expectations. Responsibilities: Review work orders, blueprints, and design specifications to understand upholstery requirements and materials needed for each furniture piece. Select appropriate fabrics, leather, foam, and other materials based on design preferences, durability, and quality standards, ensuring compatibility with furniture frames and structures. Measure and cut fabric or leather materials to fit furniture frames, using cutting tools such as scissors, knives, or fabric cutters, and mark patterns or templates as needed. Apply padding, foam, or batting to furniture frames to provide cushioning and support, using glue, staples, or stitching techniques, and ensure proper placement and alignment of materials. Stretch and attach fabric or leather upholstery to furniture frames, using hand tools, staple guns, or sewing machines, and smooth out wrinkles or creases to achieve a neat and uniform appearance. Create decorative details, such as tufting, piping, or buttoning, on upholstery surfaces, following design specifications and craftsmanship standards. Install trimmings, such as welting, gimp, or nailhead trim, to enhance the aesthetic appeal and finish of upholstered furniture pieces. Inspect finished furniture pieces for quality defects, such as loose seams, uneven padding, or fabric flaws, and make corrections or adjustments as needed to meet quality standards. Repair or replace damaged upholstery materials, including fabric tears, seam separations, or foam deterioration, using appropriate repair techniques and materials. Clean and maintain upholstery tools and equipment, including sewing machines, staple guns, and cutting tools, to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Collaborate with other craftsmen, upholsterers, and production staff to coordinate workflow, troubleshoot issues, and meet production deadlines. Follow safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to workshop safety guidelines, to prevent accidents and injuries. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the upholstery workshop, including workstations, tools, and materials storage areas, and participate in routine maintenance and cleaning tasks. Keep accurate records of materials usage, work hours, and production activities, and report any inventory shortages or equipment malfunctions to supervisors. Uphold company policies, procedures, and quality standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and industry best practices. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience (X years) as an upholsterer or similar role in furniture manufacturing or upholstery workshop. Proficiency in upholstery techniques, including fabric cutting, sewing, padding, and stretching, with a focus on quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Knowledge of upholstery materials, fabrics, and leather types, including their characteristics, properties, and suitability for different furniture applications. Ability to read and interpret design drawings, blueprints, and upholstery patterns, and translate design specifications into finished upholstery work. Proficiency in using upholstery tools and equipment, such as sewing machines, staple guns, scissors, and cutting tools, with precision and efficiency. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, with the ability to manipulate fabric, leather, and padding materials accurately and skillfully. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot upholstery issues, make adjustments, and perform repairs as needed. Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and lift heavy furniture pieces or materials as required. Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overtime, to meet production deadlines and customer demands.
