As an Automobile Body Builder, you will be responsible for constructing, modifying, and repairing vehicle bodies and structures, including trucks, buses, trailers, and specialty vehicles, to meet customer specifications and industry standards. Your primary objective will be to fabricate and assemble vehicle bodies, frames, panels, and components using various materials and techniques. This role requires technical expertise, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Responsibilities: Blueprint Interpretation: Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand design requirements, dimensions, materials, and assembly procedures for vehicle bodies and structures. Body Fabrication: Fabricate vehicle bodies, frames, chassis, panels, and components using metalworking tools and equipment, such as welders, grinders, shears, and cutting torches, according to design specifications and safety standards. Assembly and Installation: Assemble and install vehicle body components, including doors, windows, roofs, floors, walls, ramps, and interior fittings, ensuring proper alignment, fitment, and functionality. Sheet Metal Work: Cut, shape, bend, and weld sheet metal to form body panels, fenders, hoods, and other exterior features, and repair or replace damaged or rusted body sections as needed. Frame Modification: Modify or extend vehicle frames, chassis, or undercarriage structures to accommodate custom body designs, payloads, or special equipment, and reinforce frame components for strength and durability. Surface Preparation: Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting or coating by sanding, grinding, priming, and filling imperfections, and mask or cover areas to be protected during painting or finishing processes. Painting and Finishing: Apply paint, primer, or protective coatings to vehicle bodies and components using spray guns, brushes, or rollers, and ensure a smooth, even finish that meets quality standards and customer expectations. Quality Control: Inspect finished vehicle bodies for defects, flaws, or imperfections, and make necessary adjustments or repairs to ensure structural integrity, safety compliance, and aesthetic appeal. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of materials used, labor hours, work orders, and production schedules, and complete inspection reports or quality assurance documentation as required. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations at all times to prevent accidents, injuries, or hazards in the workplace, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in automotive body building or metal fabrication is preferred. Proven experience as an automobile body builder, metal fabricator, welder, or similar role in the automotive or manufacturing industry. Proficiency in metalworking techniques, including welding, cutting, bending, and shaping of various metals, such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Knowledge of vehicle construction principles, materials, and fabrication methods, including frame assembly, panel bonding, riveting, and adhesive bonding. Familiarity with automotive painting techniques, surface preparation, and finishing processes. Attention to detail and precision in measuring, cutting, and fitting components to ensure accuracy and quality. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications accurately. Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot issues and resolve challenges independently. Physical stamina and dexterity to work with hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment in a workshop environment.
